Humanitarian Action
In 1999, AMPRO launched its Humanitarian Action Programme by positioning the annual sacrificial ritual of Qurban into a global campaign to feed the underprivileged and unfortunate – including victims of natural and man-made calamities.
Known as AMPRO Qurban Amal, it spearheaded AMPRO’s social enterprise and early Humanitarian Action on a global scale. The humanitarian aid uses canned qurban meat for fast, safe and convenient method to distribute ready-to-eat meat to needy families, at times air-dropped when land transport is not possible.
AMPRO pioneered the canned qurban as an early form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Singapore. Presently, canned qurban is a popular form of distributing qurban meat through a global network that benefits the disadvantaged communities.
AMPRO Qurban Amal has distributed canned qurban meat and medical aids (known as AMPRO Qurban Amal Plus) to the following beneficiaries:
-
Rohingya refugees in Myanmar
-
Victims of natural disasters that include the tsunami in Aceh; earthquakes in Iran and Pakistan;
-
Victims of civil conflicts in Afghanistan, Palestine (Gaza), Turkey and Syria
-
Victims of conflict in Yemen, Somalia and Ethiopia
AMPRO has set up the AMPRO Foundation to run its humanitarian action programmes. AMPRO Foundation has firmed up a working collaboration with Penny Appeal Australia to undertake, for a start, three projects that the public can participate and support:
Community in Need:
An initiative that aims to deliver food aid to poverty-stricken territories, particularly Somalia and Ethiopia through our “Feed the World” programme.
Women, Children & Orphans:
A program to empower women to make them financially independent. This project also looks at helping children and orphans holistically from food to health and schooling.
Open Your Eyes:
A project to help the visually impaired restore their sight through routine eye checks, treatments, medicines and spectacles. Many individuals from the Third World, particularly children, develop cataract due to deficiency in vitamin A. Handing out Vitamin A is a preventive measure against cataract.
History of Qurban Amal Ampro
Qurban Amal AMPRO started in 1999. We introduced it and were the pioneers in canned qurban. We are the trend setters – pioneering Qurban Overseas, a measure taken to provide an alternative to live qurban done by the mosques which were not able to cater to the needs of Muslims wishing to do the qurban ibadah.
